You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
The religious leaders thought they had won. They had crucified Jesus, this troublemaker who was raining on their parade. They figured they were done with this fanatic that went around creating havoc in their otherwise peaceful control of the people and their spiritual lives. Now here comes Peter, upsetting their apple cart once again. Although these religious men had crucified the Author of Life, He had given up His life voluntarily, and God had raised Him from the dead! He had conquered the grave once and for all. The Apostles had been witness to the fact, along with hundreds of others! Jesus is ALIVE!
Satan, too, thought he had won. He had managed to send Jesus to the grave. He probably threw a big party on that Friday night two thousand years ago, too pig-headed to realize that he had lost the battle thousands of years earlier. And he’s too pig-headed to realize it now. He still thinks he’s won. He still keeps creating havoc in our lives trying to prove it… and he’s still winning people over to his side day after day.
But he has not won. He can not win in your life. He will try to tell you he’s the winner over and over again, attempting his clever deceptions just like the one he succeeded with in the Garden of Eden. He’ll remind you of your past, telling you that you aren’t good enough to do anything for God. He’ll throw temptation in your path day after day, temptation into which you might easily fall. He’ll do anything and everything he can to try to spoil what God is doing. And, unfortunately, he’s succeeding in many areas… a one day viewing of the six o’clock news will bear evidence of that.
But he hasn’t won the final victory. He has no hope of winning. The resurrection power of Jesus Christ is evidence of that. Jesus is the victor, and through Him we participate in that victory every day of our lives. So the next time Satan tries to remind you of your past, or make you depressed about your present situation, you just remind him of his future! You have victory through Jesus! Hang onto it with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind!
